The setting should give us something to work with and give you something to do besides stand there wondering where your hands go. Grab a drink somewhere you love. Wander your favorite neighborhood. Head for the water. Choose somewhere with character, then let the two of you bring the rest. The more the session feels like something you’d actually enjoy, the more there is to photograph.
You don’t need matching personalities or perfectly coordinated ways of showing affection. Maybe one of you is all in and the other needs five minutes to warm up. That’s useful information. I’ll meet you where you are, give you something to work with when you need it, and let your actual dynamic shape the photographs instead of forcing you into someone else’s version of romance.
